Distracted driving kills more than 3,000 people every year and injures almost 425,000 people. In the last week a new driving distraction is endangering lives – Pokemon Go.
Several car crashes have already been reported in the first week of the game’s release, which encourages users to travel around collecting various elements in the game. As with any other distraction, driver’s should be mindful to put the game down while driving or just as you would designate one of your passengers as a texter while driving, designate your passengers to play the game and keep your eyes and mind on the road and your hands on the wheel.
Pedestrians are also in danger from the distraction of the new game. A fifteen-year-old teen just outside of Pittsburgh was hit by a car when she walked into an intersection playing Pokemon Go. Distracted walking has injured over 10,000 people in the last decade as staring down at our cell phones while walking has becoming increasingly common. Stay aware of your surroundings. The game isn’t worth your life.
