Uber has popped up in cities across the country in the last few years as a convenient alternative to using a taxi service. Choosing to take an Uber may cost you a lot more than you anticipated.

In the most recent case in Denver, an Uber driver has been charged with sexually assaulting his passenger on Halloween night.

Sadly, this isn’t an isolated incident. More than 60 assaults by Uber have been reported. For a service that provides thousands of rides each day throughout the United States and Canada, this is a concerning trend.

In a consumer protection lawsuit filed against Uber by the San Francisco District Attorney, the DA alleged that Uber’s background check for drivers failed to uncover incidents of criminal activity in the drivers’ pasts, such as several being registered sex offenders and one being a convicted murderer.

Think twice about your safety before you tap the app for a ride service.
